It’ll get farmed out to one of our writers and reviewed forthwith (or forthwith enough…). We’re looking for independent and underground music from the BAY AREA ONLY (that means no Sacramento, Santa Cruz, etc.). Please read this first, then send me an email so I can give you our address and keep an eye out for your package. I prefer that over blind submissions.

Likewise, if you’re a BAY AREA artist with an upcoming local show that you’d like us to check out, drop me a line with the info and I’ll pass it on to our contributors to see if anyone’s able and interested.

Hopefully you won’t have to twist our arm too much. We WANT to hear your music.

The post highlights our current call for contributors, which is rad because hey, we’re looking for contributors. There’s also a dashing shot of my mug, cropped by yours truly from a picture taken in Seattle a couple years ago. The author of the blog post, Tyler Callister, gave me a call for a brief interview a couple weeks ago, then turned my hopes and dreams into a short and sweet blog post, which I guess is exactly what I do for local musicians with Local Licks every week. I’m happy with the result, and happy to share it. Maybe it will help my call for contributors find its way to the next (first?) NASCENT superstar.

From Martinez to the Mission, Berkeley to Bernal Heights; between bridge-bonded cities like Richmond and San Rafael, Fremont and San Mateo; insulated, fertile niches thrive across the Bay Area. Individually they are creative, productive, fascinating. But lacking cohesion, together they constitute a music scene that is perpetually nascent. And NASCENT is where they come together.

1) SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA BANDS ONLY. This means SF, Peninsula, North Bay, South Bay, and East Bay. If your band is not based in one of these areas, it cannot be included in NASCENT;

2) Whenever possible, full albums (EPs okay) should be sent instead of sample tracks, demos, album previews, etc.;

3) Submission of review materials does not guarantee inclusion in NASCENT.
